A study was conducted by researches at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and University of Western Ontario to see if exercise can prevent or lower the risk of gestational hypertension.
Around 10 % of women will be diagnosed with hypertension after the 20th week of pregnancy. They researchers chose 765 pregnant women to participate in the randomized controlled study. 382 pregnant women were randomized into the exercise group, and 383 pregnant women received standard care. The controlled group exercised 3x’s/ week . “Results showed that the women who did not exercise were 3’x more likely to develop hypertension.”
This study showed how exercise can help decrease the risk of gestational hypertension.
